Feasibility Study on the Application of I Ching Six Lines Divination to Financial K-Line Prediction

Financial Time Structure Experiment and Statistical Research Centered on the I Ching Six Lines Yingqi (Response Period) System

Research Direction: I Ching Six Lines × Financial K-Line Method: Data Collection · Group Statistics · Repeatable Verification Scope: Focus on Simple Hexagrams (83% Probability Coverage)

Research Background and Principles

The I Ching Six Lines divination system has been used for predicting human affairs for over a thousand years. Although its accuracy has not been fully proven by scientific standards, empirical statistics have demonstrated a considerable level of accuracy. In particular, its Yingqi (response period) system is highly suitable for determining time cycles in financial market trends.

Due to historical context, I Ching Six Lines divination was traditionally applied to areas such as national politics, personal career fortunes (official luck), business and wealth-seeking, marriage, imperial examinations, travel, illness, pregnancy and childbirth, weather, and finding lost objects. Financial derivatives like stocks, futures, and forex are modern phenomena, and there is a lack of mature research or methods regarding the application of I Ching Six Lines divination to the K-line trends of these financial products. This requires modern researchers to establish new frameworks for study and development.

Regarding the principle of I Ching Six Lines divination, we hypothesize that everything possesses energy at a certain frequency, and this energy is influenced by the surrounding environmental energies (such as those of the month and day). The essence of the divination tools is to resonate with and receive this frequency, effectively measuring invisible energy.

Key Aspects of I Ching Six Lines Prediction - Finding the Yong Shen and Analyzing Moving Lines

The first and crucial step in analyzing an I Ching Six Lines reading is to identify the Yong Shen (Utilized Spirit), i.e., to determine the positive and opposing forces. The most controversial aspect in current I Ching Six Lines financial prediction is also this selection of the Yong Shen. In classical I Ching Six Lines texts, there are examples of divination regarding hoarding and selling goods. Therefore, modern researchers often logically select Qi Cai (Wife/Wealth) as the Yong Shen. However, long-term exchange, verification, and extensive experimental statistics within I Ching Six Lines communities suggest that using Qi Cai as the Yong Shen may not align with reality. Thus, determining the correct Yong Shen is a very important topic in our research.

Explanation: In I Ching Six Lines financial prediction, selecting the Yong Shen means identifying the bullish side (Yong Shen) and the bearish side (Ji Shen).

The moving lines in I Ching Six Lines represent active parameters and dynamic energy. Combining the relationship between moving lines and the Yong Shen is a key basis for I Ching Six Lines analysis.

Furthermore, the month branch, the day branch, and the flowing day branches (five flowing days in a week) are also important bases for I Ching Six Lines analysis.

Since identifying the Yong Shen is an unknown variable for I Ching Six Lines financial prediction, our subsequent data grouping and research will primarily be conducted based on conditions like moving lines, month, day, flowing days, and hexagram names. We will query and statistically analyze whether certain patterns and repeatability exist under different conditions.

Design of Research Method for I Ching Six Lines Financial K-line Prediction

The traditional I Ching Six Lines prediction model relies on master-disciple teaching, empirical mnemonics, and validation using few case studies. This model is clearly insufficient for the research and validation needs of a modern phenomenon. Moreover, financial trading is a high-risk field demanding high accuracy and precision in analysis and judgment. At a minimum, it requires statistical support that is repeatable, verifiable, and falsifiable. Therefore, we must adopt modern scientific research methods, including conducting numerous experiments, recording experimental data, performing statistical analysis and queries on the data, conducting two-way verification with I Ching Six Lines theory, ensuring repeatable confirmation, and finally, repeatedly validating the findings in live financial trading.

Step 1: Long-term collection of financial trend divination data via online communities.

We chose to collect and study I Ching Six Lines financial divination data focusing on approximately 5-day cycles for the following reasons:

  • 1. Most enthusiasts perform divinations for the 5-day weekly trend.
  • 2. Using a daily unit aligns with financial exchange timeframes and corresponds to the I Ching Six Lines Yingqi theory (response in the near term correlates to days/hours, far term to years/months).
  • 3. Short cycles facilitate frequent repeated experiments, making the collection of large datasets feasible.
  • 4. Establishing standards and norms for the first phase of experimental data aids scientific research and validation.
  • 5. Collecting data from different individuals, using different divination methods, and covering different assets (stock indices, individual stocks, futures, forex) helps study the influence or interference of various factors.

Based on this, we established a computer database and application to record experimental data systematically and developed a query system for I Ching Six Lines experimental data using specialized terminology. Currently, over 5,000 I Ching Six Lines financial experiment entries are recorded in the database, with weekly growth continuing.

Step 2: Analysis of I Ching Six Lines Probability Models

Calculations based on the input parameters of I Ching Six Lines prediction yield the following basic probability models:

Input Parameters for I Ching Six Lines Calculation

Month Branches (12) * Day Branches (12) = 144 Month-Day combinations total

Primary Hexagram (64) * Resulting Hexagram (64) = 4096+

Primary Hexagram Static * No Resulting Hexagram = 64 = 4160 total

Total I Ching Six Lines Calculation Parameters

144 * 4160 = 599,040 total

Total possible I Ching Six Lines hexagram images is less than 600,000.

Moving Line Probability Model (calculation methods detailed elsewhere):

Static Hexagram: 17.80%

One Moving Line: 35.60%

Two Moving Lines: 29.66%

Three Moving Lines: 13.18%

Four Moving Lines: 3.30%

Five Moving Lines: 0.44%

Six Moving Lines: 0.02%

From the above data, the total probability of Static Hexagram + One Moving Line + Two Moving Lines = 83.06%

The count and probability of simple hexagrams are as follows:

Static Hexagram: 64 types

One Moving Line: 64 * 6 = 384 types

Two Moving Lines: 64 * 15 = 960 types

Total Simple Hexagrams: 64 + 384 + 960 = 1408 types

This accounts for 83% of the total hexagram probabilities.

These figures show that 83% of our divinations yield simple hexagrams. Therefore, studying only simple hexagrams can cover the needs of most experimental data: out of 5000 experimental data points, approximately 1600 would have one moving line, 1500 two moving lines, and about 900 static hexagrams.

Thus, studying just the three cases of static hexagrams, one moving line, and two moving lines can cover 83% of the data. To reduce the complex interactions caused by multiple moving lines, we mainly focus on cases with one moving line and some static hexagrams. Data from other cases are temporarily outside our primary research scope.

Step 3: Design data grouping conditions and conduct query statistical analysis.

1. First, following the traditional I Ching Six Lines method for wealth, we query and compare using various conditions based on Qi Cai (Wife/Wealth) as the Yong Shen. (Detailed comparison and analysis data can be found in separate experimental reports).

2. We continue using other traditional I Ching Six Lines 'Six Kinships' (Offspring, Sibling, Parent, Officer/Ghost, Self Line, Other Line) for querying and comparison, similar to the multiple conditions used for Qi Cai. (Details as above).

3. Considering that financial trends are public phenomena, we refer to I Ching Six Lines methods for weather and disaster divination, using different Five Elements for querying and comparison. (Details as above).

4. Perform queries and comparisons based on the primary hexagram name combined with moving line conditions. (Details as above).

In the queries and comparisons above, we focused on observing and comparing data related to the following key characteristics and Yingqi, validating them against I Ching Six Lines theory:

  • 1. Tombed by Day, Moving Line Transforming into Tomb, Static Line Entering the Tomb of a Moving Line.
  • 2. Yong Shen in Void, Moving Line in Void, Moving Line Transforming into Void.
  • 3. Moving Line Transforming into Severance.
  • 4. Moving Line Transforming into Tomb.
  • 5. Month Break, Day Break, Month Combine, Day Combine, etc.
  • 6. Hidden Activation.
  • 7. Concealment.
  • 8. Repetition (Fu Yin), Three Harmony Combinations.

The above are the basic query and analysis methods. Please refer to detailed experimental analysis reports for specifics.

During the query analysis process, characteristics showing significant repeatability are refined, organized, and summarized. For example, the trend characteristics and Yingqi effects of the Yong Shen moving line being Tombed by Day are recorded categorically. Their repeatability is further observed and confirmed. If deviations are found during subsequent experimental observations, they are promptly corrected and calibrated. If reconfirmed, new experimental evidence is added.

Daily Experimental Work and Live Financial Market Verification

Based on the query and statistical research of experimental data, some query conditions have yielded relatively clear patterns regarding the Yong Shen and key characteristics. These patterns have been repeatedly verified by existing experimental data and corroborated by I Ching Six Lines theory and Yingqi principles. Therefore, these patterns are now entering the live financial market verification phase.

Our weekly experimental work includes:

  • 1. Every Sunday, multiple people perform several divinations for the same financial instrument. Primarily selecting simple data cases, we query historical data to find similar experimental cases as important references, then analyze and predict K-lines and key Yingqi for the coming days.
  • 2. On other days of the week, based on chart monitoring and daily verification results, we perform further divinations for the next 5-day trend to confirm and corroborate findings.
  • 3. Carefully analyze commonalities in historical experimental data (including patterns, turning points, upper/lower wicks) in conjunction with I Ching Six Lines Yingqi theory. Then integrate this with technical indicator data to comprehensively analyze entry/exit timing and trading strategies.
  • 4. During daily chart monitoring, we re-evaluate existing similar experimental data and judgments based on unfolding price action, make supplementary corrections and detailed refinements. After live trades, we deepen our understanding of the experimental data and further solidify pattern summaries.

Current Status and Conclusion

Through data queries and statistical analysis under different conditions, we have identified a considerable number of trend patterns that show a certain degree of consistency with I Ching Six Lines divination theory. However, due to insufficient data volume, only about 10-20% of divination experiments can find similar or identical data in historical records. For most conditions involving complex characteristics or multi-feature combinations, data cannot be found, or only isolated examples exist, preventing repeatable confirmation. Many I Ching Six Lines theories and details remain unproven by experimental data. Furthermore, during the ongoing process of experimentation and research, we continuously supplement new discoveries, complete details, and correct erroneous understandings.

Applying the currently repeatable patterns to live financial trading has yielded preliminary validation. However, achieving the maturity and refinement of the entire system will likely require at least ten times more data to allow more comprehensive verification and further repeatable confirmations.

For live trading needs, we currently employ a method where multiple people perform several divinations to mitigate the limitation of having only a 10-20% chance of finding a direct match in the query. As the volume of experimental data grows cumulatively, this problem is expected to gradually improve.

From the perspective of extending the prediction cycle, forecasting for medium/long-term trends or intraday time frames can only be considered once the research on 5-day cycle predictions reaches a considerable level of maturity. Of course, based on current preliminary verification, the 5-day cycle judgment method (using days as the unit) still appears generally applicable to medium/long-term trends (using months as the unit). However, intraday time frame prediction (using two-hour periods as the unit) still lacks sufficient data validation.

The above represents the progress of this project as of the end of 2026. Regarding the feasibility of applying I Ching Six Lines divination to financial prediction, a greater volume of financial divination experiments and data accumulation is necessary, along with improved experimental standards and rigor, to achieve more substantial maturity and refined development.
